“When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies.” Psalm 118:5-7
In our last post, we talked about the fact that God’s love is always and forever. That is such a beautiful promise. Today’s promise is also beautiful. No matter what, He is with us. No matter the enemies that pursue us, no matter what mortals want to do, He is always with us. In recent months, it has felt like we have experienced being hard pressed on every front. It has felt like real enemies are lurking. A new normal has become the by-word. Things that we once counted on have changed from day-to-day. We never used to give going to the grocery a second thought. We would just jump in the car and go. Now we think about masks and social distancing and germs and sanitizing. Getting together as a family used to be easy. Now we have to ask ourselves questions about whether we could be infecting our loved ones if we gather. Going to church, singing our worship songs, a warm handshake, all have become different than they were a few months ago and none of it feels good.
So today, we need this gentle reminder that no matter what, He is with us.
Father, what a lovely promise that You are right here with us.
