What a beautiful way this psalm begins:
“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord: ‘Lord, save me!’” Psalm 116:1-4
The author proclaims his love for the Lord. It is stated as simply as can be and yet it is an incredibly powerful statement. “I love the Lord...”
There is nothing in life more important than this. Nothing we can have, achieve, invent, conquer, establish, build can ever come close to the power of this in our lives. If we love the Lord, everything else will fall into the correct place.
The psalmist then goes on to express part of why he loves the Lord.
The Lord heard.
He always hears.
The psalmist cried out to be saved.
The Lord saved him.
No wonder this psalm begins with these four simple words “I love the Lord...”
The Lord heard, answered, and brought salvation. It is all we really need.
Thank You that we have the gift of knowing You. We can join our voices with the psalmist and proclaim, “I love the Lord.”
