The psalms are not afraid to be recorded as big prayers. They bring thoughts before God about enemies and those who are evil. The words are filled with a call for God to act in both power and knowledge.
We can pray big prayers too. God knows our thoughts, our fears, our desire to see the world turned right side up instead of so filled with chaos and grief. So, we pray. We pray big.
“If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty! They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you? I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:19-24
We see that this psalm ends with a prayer for God’s leading in the way everlasting. It is certainly what we need in our lives.
It is what we need in our country.
It is what we need in our world.
Please God, look at our hearts. Make us aware of all that is wrong in our lives and lead us in Your ways. We are not big enough to know it all. Only You do. Please lead us.
