Once again in the chapter of Proverbs we see the pain of living with a quarrelsome person. A few verses ago it said it would be better to live on a roof. Today it says it would be better to live in the desert.
“Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife. The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down. Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor. One who is wise can go up against the city of the mighty and pull down the stronghold in which they trust.” Proverbs 21:19-22
It says it would be better to live in the desert.
Deserts have sand, lizards, snakes, scorpions, scorching heat in the daytime, and freezing cold in the night. There is little, if any, water…that’s why it’s a desert.
When we consider relationships, we need to pray for God’s guidance. Trying to live with someone who only wants to fight and argue is exhausting, grueling. We need to pray for our children and grandchildren that God will lead them to spouses who display the fruit of the spirit.
But we also need to take an inventory. Could we be the quarrelsome person this is referring to?
Do we love to get in the fray or fights and disagreements? If so, let’s pray about that as well.
Lord, make me the person You want me to be. Help me to display the fruit of the spirit. Then I also pray for my loved ones that You will guide them to exhibit the fruit of the spirit, and also find spouses who display them as well.
