“Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.” Proverbs 17:1

There is no question that for many in the world the quest is the accumulation of wealth. The life goal for some is to acquire the huge bank account and retire early. However, money does not buy, nor can it guarantee, happiness. We can have beautiful homes, all the newest toys, luxury cars, and our own personal chef, but if the house is filled with fighting and discord, is anyone happy?

This verse tells us that even the most meager existence is better, if there is peace in the home, than a fabulous house filled with strife.

We can make our goals motivated by the amount of cash they will generate, or we can pursue real peace, found only in the Prince of Peace. When we have Him, there is an abundance that mere money cannot buy.

Lord, thank You for peace that money can’t buy.
