There is in all of us an innate sense of justice. We are born with it. We hear it from the lips of even very young children. They often declare that something is unfair, and maybe it is. We experience it in our lives. We rise up when there are injustices. We want the books balanced. We want the good guys to win. We want justice doled out and crimes punished. We desire right rulings and just laws.
“Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a ruling rightly given. Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is the rebuke of a wise judge to a listening ear. Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master. Like clouds and wind without rain is one who boasts of gifts never given.” Proverbs 25:11-14
But our world’s justice often falls very short. The good guys don’t always win. The crime isn’t always solved. The guilty don’t always get punished. The good news is that God is the ultimate judge. There is a day coming when everything in the universe will be set straight and justice will be measured out. Paradise will come to earth…a day to look forward to.
Father, help me to trust that You are on the throne ruling, and You will eventually balance all the books.
