As we look back over this last year, there have been lots of times when people have been anxious. Viruses, pandemics, storms, political unrest, loneliness…yep, lots of reasons for anxiety. And that is a heavy thing. But there have been many reasons over the centuries for anxiety. Wars, floods, famines, plagues have riddled our world. Yes, reasons for people to feel afraid and anxious. Proverbs gives us a directive if we sense anxiety in the people around us. “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Proverbs 12:25
When we come across someone who seems anxious, if we offer a kind word, something encouraging, offer to pray, that cheers the heart.
For today and everyday let’s be challenged to offer kind, encouraging, faith-filled words to those we come across. Let’s use our words to bring joy and cheer to someone.
Dear Jesus, please remind me as I go to work, or run errands, or in any way interact with people to share words about You. Those kinds of words bring cheer to the heart.
