“There are three things that are too amazing for me, four that I do not understand: the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a young woman. This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth and says, ‘I’ve done nothing wrong.’” Proverbs 30:18-20
This section of Proverbs 30 lists four things, eagles, snakes, ships, and people, that are hard to understand. But then verse 20 speaks of the adulterous woman who says she’s done nothing wrong. That’s also hard to understand. How can a person do that and not feel the guilt? God has placed His laws on our hearts. We are supposed to feel guilty when we break them.
But if we sear our conscience by continuing to sin, then we no longer feel God’s tug on our hearts.
That is scary indeed.
If when we do something wrong and we feel guilty, that’s the Lord pulling us back to Him. We need to be grateful for His leading.
Lord, please make us feel guilty when we sin. We need to be so miserable that we come running back to You.
