It’s tough to face hard things. Illnesses, deaths of loved ones, family struggles, financial difficulties loom over our lives. It often feels like we are waiting for the other shoe to drop. It is exactly how the children of Israel felt. They had it bad. They had been slaves! When Pharaoh said to jump, they jumped. He was cruel. He punished them, killed their little baby sons. They went through hundreds of years of difficulties. But as they looked back, they could see that God was moving and working all the while. They could see that He was refining them. “For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.” Psalm 66:10-12
We can look back too. Can you see that God is working, moving in your life even when things are hard? No matter what we face, no matter what we are going through, God is there. He sometimes allows us to go through the fire so we too can be refined.
Lord, examine my life. What are the areas where I need to be refined? Help me to trust You as I face whatever comes.
