“Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: ‘Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love’; and, ‘You reward everyone according to what they have done.’” Psalm 62:9-12
We make distinctions in our world. Some are born in the purple, that is to say they have royal blood flowing through their veins. They live the life of the rich and famous.
And then there is the rest of the world, the lowborn, the not so privileged, the less than fortunate.
Distinctions, classes, the hierarchy of mankind, they exist in our world. And yet, for all of us, our lives are but a breath. That very fact unites us. We make our appearance on the world’s stage for a brief moment. We are only here for a season and in the light of eternity it matters little if we had fame and fortune or obscurity and struggles.
What does matter is what we have done for the kingdom.
It does matter how we have used what God has entrusted to us.
It does matter if we know the Lord and spend our days making Him known, because there is coming a day when He will reward those who have followed Him.
On that day, lowborn or highborn will not matter, only born again.
Lord, help me to know You and spend my days making You known.
