“Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered. A gift given in secret soothes anger, and a bribe concealed in the cloak pacifies great wrath. When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers. Whoever strays from the path of prudence comes to rest in the company of the dead. Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich. The wicked become a ransom for the righteous, and the unfaithful for the upright.” Proverbs 21:13-18

Giving…that’s what this section is talking about.

Often, we hear people say, “The only thing churches talk about is money.”

First of all, that is not true. Other than receiving an offering, most churches address giving only on rare occasions. But God talks a lot about giving. He knows that if we give, if we are unselfish and refuse to spend everything we have on ourselves, we will actually be better, healthier, happier, and yes, even wealthier. It is amazing that if we acknowledge that God is the true owner and we tithe and give offerings, we will have more than if we don’t. Malachi tells us to try and see. God said He would open up the windows of heaven and pour out blessings. And He will.

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Lord Jesus, You are the owner of everything I find in my possession. I need to be willing to give it right back to You. Help me to be faithful in giving.
