“But as for me, afflicted and in pain—may your salvation, God, protect me. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. This will please the Lord more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. The poor will see and be glad—you who seek God, may your hearts live! The Lord hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.” Psalm 69:29-36
Affliction and pain…we know that David faced persecution with people trying to do him harm, but it looks like he also faced physical trials. Our lives can be plagued with pain, health afflictions, physical challenges and limitations. The older we get, the more that becomes a reality. David called out for God’s salvation to protect him. We can do that as well. And then David began to praise the Lord in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving.
It can be hard to praise God when we are in pain. It can be a real challenge to offer thanksgiving when we are facing physical problems. But that is the model here. God sees everything we go through. There is not one trial we face that surprises God. We can trust Him and we can glorify His name throughout.
Lord Jesus, I am hurting, but I am going to praise You no matter what. Protect me with Your salvation.
